Poetry

Everyday I Change Your Name was first imagined on the sovereign lands of the Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin nations. A year later it was printed and bound on those same lands. Additional work on this book was made on the sovereign lands of the Arrernte people and on the sovereign lands considered to belong to the Yaithmathang and Dhudhuroa. In each of these places we were, and remain, uninvited. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and we pay our deepest respects to all First Nations people.

Everyday I Change Your Name is a poetry collection comprised of poems by established poets alongside poems by those who don’t consider themselves poets. It contains poems by people who haven’t been published before and poems that look like something else. The collection is drawn from an intercontinental assemblage of contributors whose practices span from writing to cooking to studying and beyond.

The central drive of Everyday I Change Your Name is the idea that practicing poetry isn’t merely the act of reading or writing it, but living with a sense of the poetic. This is an essential component of not only critiquing, surviving and enjoying the present, but also of speculating on and enacting the futures we want and need. By presenting work from poets and non-poets alike, Everyday I Change Your Name seeks to engage the reader in the possibilities of poetic practice. It is an eclectic collection that offers moving and thoughtful work for both first time poetry readers and long time devotees.

Everyday I Change Your Name is limited to 500 copies. Each cover features a hand-foiled version of an artwork by artist Aaron C. Carter.

With great sadness we acknowledge Ania Walwicz passed away during the process of putting this book together. She was a poet, artist and performer of remarkable intensity. She was big time, more massive than the sun. Ania’s life stands as a beacon of hope, illuminating another way of being in Australia. Her’s was the life of an artist committed to her art, teaching and relationships.

We are unspeakably privileged to have been entrusted with two of her poems.
